Maes Eniediau/Field of Souls

I am currently working towards an installation at Y Gaer, Brecon for July and August into September 2024. Maes Eniediau/Field of Souls is its title.

For those who know the Museum, it’s contemporary gallery has been returned in part to something of its original state, wooden floor, wall panels and shuttered windows, but for me most importantly, it has an interesting atmosphere.

I am making heads, many heads, probably forty plus to inhabit the space. They will, I hope, stand alone as individuals and also interact, hopefully having some sort of conversation.

I will be using words produced by my friend the poet David Thomas, we have collaborated on quite a few projects, Wandering Soul, Oriel Canfas, Cardiff and Oriel Q, Narberth, Hortus Conclusus/Enclosed Garden, Mission Gallery, Swansea. My son Joseph, a collaborator also, will be creating a soundscape, which will include David’s words. I will probably invite some of my seated “visitors” who made their debut at my show Yo Lo Fi/Fe Welais i in MoMA Machynlleth a few years ago to participate. They will be there to make sure order is maintained!

Although all exhibitions are and should be “stand alone”, this show will be another development of ideas, feelings, emotions and thoughts that I have – sometimes it seems unknowingly – been investigating over many years.
